Auto Bail Out-Part 2, A World without GM

Less than a few hours from the writing of this blog it will be New Years 2009 (Eastern Standard Time). At this point GM and the auto manufacturers were supposed to be out of money and closing their doors if they didn't get a Bail Out. What will a few hours from now look like? Will 2009 be the year, US loses its largest company, its auto industry? Will we crumble into 3rd world nation status if it happens? I know that this is bigger than Enron & even bigger the motor city facing extinction as a result, Detroit. But what will the US look like without GM?

Whatever happened to Enron, Woolworth or even Ma Bell? These gigantic companies were all one of the largest on the planet at their times. Enron is completely GONE and the world kept spinning! Woolworth changed their name to Foot Locker and are doing very well. Ma Bell, well the world didn't end, new smaller companies popped up all of the place, prices fell, more services were being created. Then cell companies and VOIP are our new options.

Now I am not saying I want to see GM go...but then again I think it would be better to be in a world with smaller car companies creating cars for regular citizens. Large foreign auto builders will buy up pieces of GM while smaller companies will gobble up factories throughout the US. Designers will start their own design firms and start designing cars for all kinds of companies.

The hit of GM will sting but the planet won't stop spinning, the US will absorb the small punch and America will be wiser, smarter, more innovative and the rest of the world will buy US cars.

If GM is still here in 2009, I still hope they become smaller and faster. Totally revamp EVERYTHING they do today (not just features) and be a leader throughout the world.
