President Obama is hope and challenge for Blacks

Wow! I am still not sure it has hit me that an African American man has been elected to the highest office in America and to a certain degree in the World. This is awesome to behold and almost unbelievable. I look forward to January 20, 2009 Inauguration Day for the swearing in of Barack Obama where I believe it really hits home for me and the world.

President Obama brings a boat load of hope to African Americans and African decent people all over the world but he also brings a major challenge. He challenges all people of color specifically those of African decent to reach a new high and he raises the bar.

My Pastor Dr. Warren E. Meeks Sr., talked about this last night this way. He said that "now there can be no more excuses, no more CP (color people) Time, no more coming in late, no more doing it lackadaisical, no more half-doing things and no more limits." He said because of President-Elect Barack Obama, "life will now get harder for people of color because everyone else is expecting more from us." (This is NOT a bad thing!)

I didn't hear anyone talk about this at all for the past 2 years but there were no sex scandals with Barack Obama. No secrets coming out with a sista in the neighborhoods he worked in. No baby-mama-drama from some woman he "hooked up" with before Michelle. No I think Mr. Obama challenges people of color on another issue that NEEDS to be challenged, our relationships and marriage.

Creating and then managing the most powerful and probably largest ground team ever assembled for a presidential campaign. Raising over $600,000,000+ in less than a years time, drawing millions to hear him speak not just in America but also in Europe.

So 40 years after MLK's "I Have A Dream" speech and a new Black President, are you ready for the challenge? Are you ready to leap to another level in your relationships, marriages, raising kids, doing business, fund raising and even being promoted to the highest positions in our lives? Can we live up to those kinds of standards? YES WE CAN!
